January's Wrap Up...Great Month :-)

Wow, January flew by so quickly, but it was an exciting ride. In the tri-state area, we had a weather roller coaster ride with plenty of rainfall, a wintry mix winter storm and a wrap up of unseasonably mild temps in the 60s. As for me, January was a great ride as well with a great showroom model gig in Florida, a bit of TV freelancing, a bit of commissioned art work and wrapping up the month with the debut of the O'Jays and Levert music video. The photo to the left is a still image from the music video.  I'm a lucky girl...Life's good :-) BTW,Thanks so very much for your e-mails. I'll be certain to reply to all e-mails sent this week within the next few days.  I'm doing less blogging these days and more tweeting :-)

Hazardous NE Driving Conditions Ahead

A fast-moving Low pressure system will bring hazardous road conditions in the NE overnight Friday through Saturday. This photo, courtesy of AccuWeather.com, gives a good overview of potential trouble spots. Wintry mix conditions of snow/sleet and freezing rain transitioning to rain will likely create a slippery glaze of ice that's challenging for vehicles. Cities with the highest potential for glaze include Washington DC, Baltimore, Wilmington and Philadelphia.  Most of the snowfall this weekend will be north and west of I-95.

Great Start To The New Year...

It was a great start to 2012, with a week long spokesmodel gig in Melbourne, FL. I spent most of the time at Cocoa Beach and had a blast. Since then I've been keeping busy painting and doing a bit of freelance forecasting. More spokesmodel work is ahead in the next couple of months and I'm looking forward to my debut in a music video soon...

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a very happy holiday, as we celebrate Thanksgiving Day with family and friends this week.  In New York City and Philly, the first half of this holiday week is a little wet. High pressure will build in by Thursday, so Thanksgiving Day looks mostly sunny and dry for all of your outdoor plans. It will be cooler Thursday, with regional highs topping out between 48 and 52 degrees in the NYC and Philly metro areas.
I hope your holiday week is filled with joyful activities.  Feel free to leave a comment below this post sharing your Thanksgiving Day plans. My volunteer and modeling activities for this holiday week will be posted on Twitter. By the way, I sometimes share fun postings from my Google Plus friends on my Google Plus postings page at: LRod Google Plus Postings.

To all of my wonderful, supportive New York City area friends, please visit my Examiner blog for NYC weather-related postings at http://www.examiner.com/ny-in-new-york/lisa-rodriguez.
Happy Thanksgiving Day Everyone!

Morning Inspiration - Celia Cruz, La Vida Es Un Carnaval

Salsa Legend Celia Cruz's famous song, La Vida Es Un Carnival, is one of my all time favorite songs....Composed in Spanish, it's message is universal! I've posted the beginning lyrics followed by the English translation below. This song really embodies the spirit of living life to the fullest, knowing you're not alone and taking the lows in stride while being confident that the highs are just around the corner....

"Todo aquel que piense que la vida es desigual,
tiene que saber que no es asi,
que la vida es una hermosura, hay que vivirla.
Todo aquel que piense que esta solo y que esta mal,
tiene que saber que no es asi,
que en la vida no hay nadie solo, siempre hay alguien."

Translation:
"Everyone out there that thinks that life is unfair,
Needs to know that's not the case,
Because life is beautiful, you just have to live it.
Everyone out there that thinks they are alone and that that's bad
Needs to know that's not the case,
Because in life no one is alone, there is always someone"

These are just the beginning lyrics. Below is a link to a Youtube music video that shows the entire song translated in English subtext...Enjoy!

LRod Photo and Trade Show Update

Here's a another photo from this weekend's auto show.  I've posted a few additional photos on Twitter. My next model gig isn't until Thursday, so I have plenty of time to rest up from the cold that I caught this weekend. Also, I'm filling-in for a fellow meteorologist in North Carolina next week...

While I am out of town, my very pretty and youthful-looking mom will be working as my fill-in "Trade Show Treadmill Model" for Alter-G on October 17th & 18th (noon to 4pm) at the DC Convention Center.

If you are in town, stop by the Alter-G Treadmill exhibit and say hello to my mom :)

Thank You Blog Followers :-)

Wow! Special thanks for your wonderful e-mails about Earl, my dance partner at the senior center. I'm not quite ready for "Dancing With The Stars" yet, but Earl certainly is :) Earl is living proof that age is just a number. He's been retired for quite some time now and he has more energy than anyone I've ever met.

Looking ahead, there are many fun painting, modeling and volunteer projects this month that I will post on Twitter at @TVWeathergal

Spotlight On Fans - Greg Brostowicz & Pepsico Pals

This Pepsico group photo was given to me by loyal fan and friend Greg Brostowicz, from Pleasantville, NY. Greg is the handsome guy (centered-top) in the dark blue shirt with the yellow collar.

This photo was taken while celebrating Greg's 32nd birthday. Greg and the gang are a terrific group of guys...laid back, funny and  very considerate of others.

Special thanks to Greg and the Pepsico crew for all of your support over the years!  You rock!

Weather Outlook For NYC & Philly

There are widespread flooding issues to deal with in the wake of Irene, but the pleasant and mostly dry conditions ahead will help with cleanup efforts.  High pressure dominates the NE Monday thru Wednesday, giving the NYC and Philly metro areas loads of sun and dry conditions thru the midweek. Thursday looks to be partly sunny with a slight chance of a stray shower.  Tuesday through Thursday, Tri-State regional temps will range in the low to mid 80s.

Today in NYC, regional highs will be near 78 degrees with a pleasant northerly breeze at 9mph. In Philly, regional highs will be near 80 degrees with a N wind 2-7mph.   BTW, Don't forget the Eagles vs Jets game this Thursday at MetLife Stadium (7:30pm ET).  I'll post a special game day forecast Thursday :-)

Irene's Eye To Pass Near Philly and New York City

Irene's Projected Path Courtesy AccuWeather
Irene's eye is set to track near the Philadelphia and New York City metro areas late tonight through Sunday afternoon, posing danger to millions of people. A strong threat remains for widespread flooding, damaging high winds, power outages and downed trees. Please evacuate if directed to do so by local officials. Also evacuate if your home is vulnerable to high winds or positioned near flood prone zones, particularly coastal.

Irene Makes Landfall & Weakens, But Still A Major Threat This Weekend

Irene Image At 8:22AM, Courtesy TWC
Irene weakened a bit as she made landfall this morning near Cape Lookout, NC.  However, Irene is a big, slow moving system and remains a threat to major cities along the East Coast this weekend, threatening damaging high winds and widespread major flooding.

Preparing For Hurricane Irene

Irene's Latest Track Projection from TWC
From Eastern NC to New England, Hurricane Irene is set to track up the east coast this weekend threatening damaging winds, widespread power outages, major flooding issues and downed trees on cars, houses and power lines. Major cities to be impacted include Outer Banks, Norfolk, Washington DC, Philadelphia, New York City, Boston and Portland.

So how can we best prepare for Irene’s wrath? Here are a handful of tips: Stock up on water (NOAA recommends 1 gallon per person per day of impact), gather non perishables and a non-electric can opener (considering power outages), gather batteries and flashlights. Also considering the strong winds coming, it’s a good time now to pick up, put away and/or tie down outside items that can fly away (lawn chairs, plants, etc.).

Keeping An Eye On Hurricane Irene

Earlier this week Hurricane Irene slammed Puerto Rico knocking out power, downing trees and flooding streets.  Thankfully, no deaths were reported. Wishing all my relatives in Puerto Rico the very best as they recover from major flooding issues.

The most recent models suggest Irene will hit the east coast this weekend (beginning late Friday), producing potentially life-threatening damaging winds and torrential rainfall from the North Carolina Outer Banks through Maine. Millions could lose power this weekend and with the heavy rain ahead, there are major flooding concerns.

The above AccuWeather image gives a good overview of Irene's projected path.

Morning Inspiration: Keep Your Head Up :-)

I found this terrific quote by an unknown author that I'd like to share:

"When made frustrated and fretful by small cares, look up at the sky, the stars, and see how insignificant our troubles really are."
